This month we’re paying homage to Manhattan and its iconic Katz’s Delicatessen where their famous Pastrami on Rye Sandwich (“ask for mayo at your own peril”) is as New York as it gets!
In the New York we know and love, each week thousands of visitors from around the globe flocked to Katz’s Deli to dine on the most delectable sandwiches, platters and meats. But it’s the New Yorkers who have made Katz’s Delicatessen what it is today, a much-adored slice of Manhattan’s vibrant culture and history. Since 1888 New Yorkers have proudly spread the word, brought friends, written books, shot films and kept coming back for a pastrami on rye!
So you can enjoy a slice of the Big Apple from the comfort of your home, we’re sharing our Deli Pastrami on Rye recipe in our April blog. It may not be Katz’s Pastrami on Rye but it’s the next best thing! And if you haven’t already, check out When Harry Met Sally, streaming now on Stan .

Deli Pastrami on Rye
Grab yourself an amazing loaf of our New York Rye and get ready for a real belly pleaser. It’s essential to work with a quality pastrami here, especially thinly sliced. The combination of Swiss cheese, warmly spiced deli meat, and the brine-y dill pickles makes for a wonderful flavour.
2x slices Brasserie Bread ‘New York Rye’ Sourdough
2x Tbsp. Whole Egg Mayonnaise
2x Tbsp. Wholegrain Mustard
100g Pastrami, thinly sliced (or more if your jaw allows!)
2x slices Swiss Cheese
3x slices Dill Pickles, cut length-wise (we use the legends Westmont Pickles)
Assembly – Mix together the mayonnaise and mustard, then spread generously over one side of each slice. Load up one slice with the pastrami, pickles, Swiss cheese, and then top with the other slice. Cut in half and devour.
PS. We dared to add mayo to our recipe!
