Grains thrice a day keep the doctor away

Is it a little overindulgent to eat bread three times a day? We think not. You can never have too much of a good thing, right?

This morning as I was rushing to catch my bus, what kept me warm and toasty was the heavily buttered Harvest Grain slice in my mitts. Come lunchtime I was happily munching on a sandwich at my desk. Today’s inspired sandwich includes double-smoked ham, gruyere, Dijon mustard, fresh tomato and butter lettuce.

When a creation as good-looking as the Harvest Grain sandwich is daintily sitting on your desk, it’s just screaming to be polished off. I like that the Harvest Grain sandwich has a fresh factor, especially if you’re eating it untoasted. Mind you, toasting it will add an oozy, mouth-watering, cheesy kind of revelation.

The health-conscious need not worry. The Harvest Grain is a sourdough loaf with seven nutritious whole grains and seeds: oats, kibbled wheat, barley, millet, polenta, linseeds and sesame seeds. The grains are boiled first, making the crumb soft and springy. But the hero of this bread is the crunchy sesame crust. The distinct flavour of the toasted sesame jumps out at you with every bite.

If you’ve got a hankering for some deliciously nutritious grain bread, get yourself to our Café – the Harvest Grain is in our toast selection. Or just buy a whole loaf, take it home and discover what we’re raving about. Eat it with soup (there’s dinner!) or create your own sandwich – the possibilities are endless!

So what’s your take on this? Is it too indulgent to eat bread for breakfast, lunch and dinner? My German grandparents eat bread for dinner every night (Abendbrot – ‘evening bread’ they call it). And I’m inclined to follow suit.

Check out our Café menu for your Harvest Grain fix or buy a loaf online.

Hi John, thanks for bringing this to my attention! When we upgraded our website, a lot of the links slightly changed. I’ve updated it now.

Best,
Sarah.
