We ventured to Richmond to check out a brand new Italian experience. ROAM is the latest undertaking by the Sciarpa family, inspired by their heritage. Carlo and Carmel Sciarpa with their daughter Zegna have combined their passions to bring Italian cooking to the streets of Melbourne.

Roaming from Italy to Australia

The name ROAM represents all that Carlo is. Coming from Italy to Australia, it’s an acknowledgement of his journey. But ROAM also pays homage to Rome (or Roma as known in Italian). Carlo is an avid Roma FC fan, which is referenced through the representation of the wolf. Taken from the team’s coat of arms and modernised, the wolf has become a symbol of the café.

Fresh, delicious food at Roam

Honest, wholesome food is at the forefront at ROAM. The Sciarpa family welcomes guests into their cafe just like they would into their home. Cicchetti (mini rolls) are served on Brasserie Bread cantina – one with slow cooked pork belly and mustard; another with calamari, rocket, gherkins, and aioli. They’re absolutely delightful.

A fresh, nutritious lunch is brought to you by a snapper fillet in padella, thyme aioli, and panzanella salad. We love that ROAM is avoiding food waste, making the panzanella with leftover bread.

If you like the sound of a savoury French toast, get your head around the ham and cheese sandwich made with Brasserie Bread single origin sandwich loaf that’s fried to perfection.

The coffee by Maker Fine Coffee is excellent. Today we’re sipping on coffee from Celinga, Ethiopia, boasting a rich, floral aroma, fruit notes, and a milk chocolate finish.
